In a game with 93 points scored, it hard to point to a defensive stand as a key moment, but Georgia finally made one late in the third quarter. The Dogs had just taken a 42-35 lead on Cox’s 44-yard touchdown pass to Orson Charles and a two-point pass to A.J. Green. Arkansas drove down the field and had a first-and-goal at the Georgia 8. But a penalty and two incompletions left Arkansas at the 13 on third down. Ryan Mallett completed a pass to D. Williams, but Georgia stopped him at the 6 and forced Arkansas to kick a field goal.

Georgia led 24-21 late in the second quarter and stopped Arkansas, forcing a punt. With 35 seconds left and the ball at its 47, Georgia could have taken a knee and a 3-point lead into intermission. But Cox completed a couple of passes and Blair Walsh kicked a 37-yard field goal for a 27-21 lead.

“Everybody knows how good he is in our locker room, and that’s what matters. If somebody wants to run their mouth before the game, that’s their problem. Obviously it might not end up good after the game when he has a couple touchdowns on them.” — Georgia quarterback on wide receiver A.J. Green, who caught two of Cox’s touchdown passes.
