ATHENS - Ken Malcome's career at Georgia has apparently ended up lasting all of one carry.
The redshirt freshman tailback is transferring, head coach Mark Richt announced after Wednesday's practice.
Richt said Malcome came into his office obefore Wednesday's practice.
“(He) felt like he had gotten so far behind the competition at his position," Richt said. "He felt like he needed to go to another school and get another fresh start and maybe get another opportunity to play.”
Malcome had fallen behind Brandon Harton, a former walk-on, on the depth chart. Malcome received one carry, against Coastal Carolina.
The door isn't closed for Malcome. Richt said that if the player came to him regretting his decision, he would hug him and take him back.
Malcome becomes the third player to leave the team in the past two weeks. Richt confirmed that sophomore Derek Owens was transferring, and safety Jakar Hamilton, a senior, left the team.
