ATHENS - After another heartbreaking road loss, Georgia's plans for the SEC tournament are set: First LSU, and with a victory, then Florida.
Georgia fell to Alabama, 61-58, on Saturday afternoon, with the Crimson Tide's Trevor Releford hitting a halfcourt shot at the buzzer. The Bulldogs rallied from 17 down at the half and 14 down in the second half, tying it with under a minute to go.
Georgia will be the No. 8 seed after Saturday's results around the conference. That means a matchup on Thursday at 1 p.m. against ninth-seeded Alabama.
The winner of that game then faces top-seeded Florida, on Friday at 1 p.m.
Never miss a local story.
Georgia defeated LSU in January in Athens, 67-58. Both teams finished 9-9 in SEC play, so the Bulldogs' head-to-head win is the reason it will wear the home jersey in Nashville.
Florida swept Georgia during the regular season, with the Gators winning by 33 in Gainesville and by 17 in Athens. The Bulldogs did lead at halftime of the game in Athens, which was on Jan. 23.
