ATHENS - The schedule for the spring UGA Day tour has been revealed by the alumni association. It includes a trip to Houston, as well as Orlando and the normal in-state spots:
April 16 - Greenville, S.C.
April 22 - Gainesville
April 24 - Dalton
April 30 - Orlando, Fla.
May 1 - Savannah
May 12 - Albany
May 13 - Houston, Tex.
May 14 - Tifton
May 19 - Augusta
May 21 - Columbus
May 22 - Macon
July 15 - Gwinnett County
Head football coach Mark Richt is slated to speak at each event. Head men's basketball coach Mark Fox has typically made it to all but two or three of the events, depending on the recruiting schedule.
Mark Slonaker, head of the Bulldog Club, said the decision to go to Houston was made in part because of the SEC's new reach into Texas A&M. Last year Georgia went to Dallas, where Matt Stafford led to a new base of Bulldog fans.
"We've got a really good, strong alumni base (in the Houston area)," Slonaker said. "We're trying to go to three out-of-state cities, in different markets."
That includes Orlando, and Greenville, S.C., the latter of which is near Clemson.
The core cities of the tour are Atlanta (represented by Gwinnett County), Savannah, Macon, Augusta, Columbus and Albany. And the tour is returning for a second straight year to Tifton, which other than Gwinnett was the biggest UGA Day crowd of last year.
