ATHENS - Brandon Morris, a starter for Georgia's men's basketball team, was arrested early Sunday morning on one felony charge of possession marijuana with intent to distribute.
Morris, a junior forward, was booked at Athens-Clarke County jail at 3:21 a.m., according to the Athens-Clarke County jail web site. Morris is from Lithonia, and played at Miller Grove High School.
Some details from the report filed by Athens-Clarke County police:
-- Morris was alone in a car about 2 a.m. Sunday. A police officer approached the vehicle because it was parked in a motorcycle-only spot. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana. A search of the car revealed marijuana and Morris was arrested.
Never miss a local story.
-- A police spokesman said they don't typically release the amount of marijuana that was found. A felony charge requires more than an ounce of marijuana to be found, according to Georgia law.
-- Morris was found with a digital scale.
Georgia head coach Mark Fox was aware of the arrest and would have a statement later, according to a team spokesman.
Morris was Georgia's third-leading scorer last season, averaging 8.6 points per game. He started 25 games, averaging 25.4 minutes per game.
He missed the first three games of last year for discipline reasons, which Fox did not elaborate on.
