Columbus State senior Rachel Walthall staked the Cougars to a 2-0 lead contest and the team coasted in for a 6-3 win over Montevallo in its final regular-season home game of the year Wednesday.
The two scores were fitting for Walthall as she and four other senior players were honored before the contest as part of CSU’s Senior Night activities.
Also scoring for the Cougars were Gina Goforth, Stephanie Parrish, Stephanie Lowery and Kelsey Bass.
CSU improved to 14-1-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the Peach Belt Conference; Montevallo dropped to 6-8-2 and 3-5-1.
The Cougars next play at Florida Tech 7 p.m. Friday, then conclude the regular season 1 p.m. Sunday at Flagler.
The three goals the Cougars allowed marked the first game this season they gave up multiple goals — and the figure was one shy of their total allowed going into the contest.
A loss by Augusta State (11-3-3 overall, 7-2 PBC) on Thursday at Flagler will clinch the fourth straight regular-season PBC title for the Cougars
