Columbus State women's soccer team, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II, ties NO. 17 Florida Tech 1-1

Melbourne, Fla. — The Columbus State and Florida Tech women’s soccer teams tied 1-1 Friday.

Columbus State’s Gina Goforth scored her team-best 12th goal just over three minutes into the game. She gathered a through ball and dribbled it past Melissa Pyles before knocking it into the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

No. 17 Florida Tech got the tying goal early in th second half. Teresa Brantley took a pass from Paula Lillsjo and dribbled to her right and then fired a shot past Kelly Nimmo at the 49:51 mark.

No. 7 CSU concludes regular-season play with an important Peach Belt Conference game. After Armstrong Atlantic’s 5-0 win over Flagler on Thursday, CSU needs to win Sunday’s game to clinch its fourth straight PBC Championship. A loss would give the title to AASU. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in St. Augustine.
