Jenna Kuzemski scored her first goal of the season 7:38 into Tuesday night’s game, and eighth-seed Montevallo stunned top-seed Columbus State 1-0 at the Walden Complex. The game was part of the first round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament, which CSU had won three straight years.

What made the result even more stunning is Montevallo’s 6-8-3 record and that CSU beat Montevallo 6-3 earlier this season.

The Lady Cougars entered the game with a 15-1-3 record. The only loss came to North Georgia. That loss ended a 13-game winning streak. Since that winning streak, CSU had finished the season 2-1-2. CSU won its fifth straight Peach Belt regular-season title by a half game over Armstrong Atlantic.

Kuzemski scored with an assist by Natalie Martineau. Montevallo’s Alyssa Maxwell made seven saves. CSU’s Kelly Nimmo made two saves.

Montevallo, which joined the Peach Belt this season, advanced to Friday’s semifinal at Evans, Ga.
