Columbus State’s loss in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer tournament last week could have been damaging to the Lady Cougars’ NCAA hopes.

But CSU found out Monday night that it wasn’t.

The Lady Cougars are seeded second for the Southeast Regional and will host first- and second-round games at the Walden Complex.

“We weren’t sure exactly what was going to happen after that game on Tuesday,” CSU coach Jay Entlich said in a press release. “Thankfully, our schedule was strong enough throughout the year and having 15 wins kept us where we were. We are really excited to be able to play in the regional on our home field again this year.”

PBC tournament champion Armstrng Atlantic is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 seed Belmont Abbey on Friday at CSU. Game time will be announced today.

The winner of that game will play CSU on Sunday.

The other three teams in the regional are playing at No. 1 seed Carson-Newman, which won the South Atlantic Conference tournament. In that regional, Newberry and Tusculum will play Friday with the winner facing Carson-Newman on Sunday.

CSU is hosting a portion of a regional for the third consecutive year and is making its fourth overall tournament appearance. CSU has advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal round in each of the last two seasons, hosting that round in 2007.

Ticket information will also be released today.
