DUKE 5, GEORGIA TECH 3
DURHAM, N.C. — Jake Lemmerman hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to give the Blue Devils the lead for good.
The homer broke a 3-3 tie and gave Duke (34-22, 15-15 ACC) the series win over the Jackets.
Lemmerman sent the first pitch he saw off Tech reliever Kevin Jacob over the right field wall
Lemmerman and Tim Sherlock led the Blue Devils with two hits apiece, while Dennis O’Grady (2-2) picked up his second win.
O’Grady ran into trouble in the ninth inning after Jeff Rowland and Chris House both reached on two-out singles, but closer Michael Ness picked up the save when center fielder Will Piwnica-Worms ended the game by making a leaping catch against the center field wall on a fly ball by Luke Murton.
Matt Skole hit his 15th home run of the season to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Georgia Tech will play Miami in the ACC tournament opener. But the schedule for the tournament will not be announced until today.
