ACC TOURNAMENT

Georgia Tech 9, Florida State 2

DURHAM, N.C. — Luke Murton hit a three-run homer, Tony Plagman also connected and Georgia Tech beat Florida State to avoid being swept at the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament.

Murton’s blast in the third inning gave the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 lead. Georgia Tech (35-17-1) has 104 home runs this season, the most in coach Danny Hall’s 16 seasons in Atlanta.

Jason Stidham hit a solo homer for Florida State (42-15). The game was meaningless for the Seminoles, who already had clinched a spot in Sunday’s league title game by starting 2-0 in the round-robin event.

Clemson 3, North Carolina 2

Wilson Boyd drove in Mike Freeman in the 11th inning to help Clemson beat North Carolina.

Freeman also homered for the Tigers (40-19), who avoided being swept during the round-robin round.

Freeman started Clemson’s rally with one out in the 11th when he bunted down the third base line, and Patrick Johnson’s throw to first soared over Dustin Ackley’s head, allowing Freeman to race around to third. After two intentional walks loaded the bases, Johnson struck out Kyle Parker and Boyd ended the game by sending a drive off the scoreboard in left field.

Ackley homered for North Carolina (42-16), which forced extra innings in the ninth when Ben Bunting’s single to second base scored Ryan Norton.
