Coastal Carolina beats Yellow Jackets

David Sapplet had two home runs and four RBIs and Coastal Carolina held off a late rally to beat Georgia Tech.

Coastal Carolina (38-10) jumped on Yellow Jackets stater Eddie Burns (5-4) for five runs in the second inning, including Sapplet's three-run homer. Sapplet hit a solo homer in the fourth to give the Chanticleers a 7-1 lead.

The Yellow Jackets (32-14) scored five runs in the sixth to cut the lead to one run. But Scott Woodard's homer and a two-run home run by Dock Doyle pushed Coastal Carolina's lead to 10-6 in the eighth.

Georgia Tech tried to rally in the ninth with three runs, but couldn't pull any closer.

Cody Wheeler (4-0) gave up five runs, eight hits had five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings for Coastal Carolina.
