Bill Ploeger of Columbus ties for second in John Owens Division at Society of Seniors Championship golf tournament

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Bill Ploeger of Columbus finished in a three-way tie for second place Wednesday in the 11-player John Owens Division (age 65-74) of the Society of Seniors Championship at Lookout Mountain Golf Club.

Ploeger (71-71-79—226) led after each of the first two rounds in the 54-hole event, but Del Kinney (73-77-75—225) of Great Barrington, Mass., was one stroke better than him and Gus Kozina (79-73-74—226) of Beach Park, Ill., and Jack Vardaman (78-72-76-—226) of Washington, D.C.

The society comprises amateur golfers age 55 and older with maximum handicaps of 3 when they join.
