The Columbus Relays that were scheduled for today at Kinnett Stadium have been canceled due to inclement weather.
The event will not be rescheduled, Shaw coach Pablo Sanchez said. With the Muscogee County School District teams on Spring Break this week, and many of the other teams having school on Monday, there was no day to reschedule, Sanchez said.
Many of the teams have a meet scheduled for next weekend so that wasn’t a possibility, either.
With rain expected for most of the day, the MCSD coaches met at Kinnett this morning to make the decision to cancel the meet. It was called at 7:30 a.m.
Never miss a local story.
As of 9 a.m. – the time the meet was supposed to begin – Columbus had received 0.59 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service Web site.
“It’s sad because we had all the teams coming,” Sanchez said. “The one thing you can’t control is the weather.”
The Columbus Relays, which had only 11 teams competing last year, was expected to have twice as many this year.
