Woodrow Lowe has accepted the position as Central-Phenix City football coach.
Lowe was a member of the Central coaching staff during the team's 1993 state title run and was head coach at Smith Station for three seasons until 2008. He was an All-American linebacker at Alabama, coached at the college level and has played and coached in the NFL.
"This is a dream come true," Lowe said. "This is where it all started for me. This is where I learned to be associated with the great game of football. It's a dream come true. I've been there as a student-athlete, then as a coach, and now I'm probably going to finish out my career here. It's something very special for me."
Lowe will begin teaching and coaching at Central on Jan. 11 but must still be approved by the Phenix City Board of Education meeting on Jan. 28.
