With the flip of a coin, top-ranked Carver's playoff home stand came to an end Saturday morning.
No. 3 Calhoun (13-0) and No. 1 Carver (13-0) coaches met about halfway between the schools on Saturday morning to flip the coin after both top seeds won their respective quarterfinal games a night earlier. Carver defeated Thomasville 40-14, and Calhoun defeated No. 8 Fitzgerald 31-13.
Carver has played each of its three playoff games at home, but Carver coach Dell McGee said after Friday's game that he and his team would not be affected by having to play a game roughly 170 miles from Columbus.
The winner of Friday's semifinal at Calhoun will advance to the state championship Dec. 10 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The Carver-Calhoun winner will play the winner of the Buford-Lovett semifinal.
