A pair of Glenwood football players signed with colleges on Friday.
Fullback Judson Humphries signed with William Penn (Oskaloosa, Iowa) and lineman Austin Williams signed with LaGrange College, where both said their new teams have high expectations.
William Penn finished the season 7-3 overall and 4-1 in Mid-States Football Association Midwest League play and with a No. 12 ranking in the final NAIA standings.
“It’s a big deal, and I’m really fortunate they’re that good,” Humphries said of William Penn. They have a good chance to win a championship next year, and hopefully they will have some good classes come in and just keep getting better.”
Humphries finished the 2010 season with 576 yards rushing on 103 carries with 12 touchdowns to earn a spot in the Alabama Independent School Association All-Star Classic and as an honorable mention Ledger-Enquirer All-Bi-City selection. He said he will remain at fullback in William Penn’s triple-option offense and likely will redshirt his freshman season.
Williams played an offensive line and fullback hybrid position at Glenwood, but said he expects to play on the defensive line and at linebacker at LaGrange.
LaGrange is coming off a 3-7 season, but Williams said he the pieces are in place to win another St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, something the team last did in 2008.
“They’re a young team and we really want to build a name for that school,” Williams said. “They’re young again because they just graduated their first senior class, but we’re going to really strive to win another conference championship.”
