Brookstone rolled to a 43-12 victory over Schley County Friday night in a Region 4-A matchup at Rex Knight Field.
Cougars freshman quarterback Jaqwon Roberts passed for three touchdowns and was 16-33 for 229 yards. Sophomore running back Prather Hudson rushed for 132 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns, one on a 9-yard shuttle pass from Roberts. Senior kicker Miller Page added three field goals.
"We did a great job executing tonight," said Brookstone coach Brad Dehem. "An important part of the game was the way we started."
Brookstone (4-3, 2-2) scored on its opening drive going 57 yards, which culminated in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Roberts to sophomore receiver Kordell Braxton. Later in the first quarter, the Cougars went up 13-0 when Hudson ran it in from 1 yard out.
Brookstone made it 21-0 in the second quarter when Roberts connected with junior Grant Davidson for a 6-yard touchdown.
Schley's Tra Minter scored the only two touchdowns for the Wildcats, one on an 86-yard run, the other on a 95-yard kickoff return to start the second half.
Brookstone finished with 459 offensive yards. Leading Cougar receivers were Braxton with 4 catches for 48 yards and senior Leye Olubowale with 4 catches for 41 yards.
Defensively, Brookstone's senior linebacker Jack Raines led the Cougars with two fumble recoveries.
"Offensively we struggled early in the season," said Dehem. "Now we're having some success on the field and that feeds itself.
