DeRon Furr made the most of his role in the debut of the Medal of Honor Bowl.
The former Fort Valley State linebacker/rover was named the MVP of the National team in the game played Saturday at The Citadel.
The American team won 20-3.
Furr led the National group -- coached by former Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey -- with six tackles and two pass breakups.

The Carver grad was second in tackles last season for the Wildcats with 60 tackles, including 11.5 for loss, two sacks, nine quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles.
Defensive lineman Euclid Cumming of Georgia Tech was also on the National roster, along with wideout Gerald Ford of Valdosta State
Former teammate offensive lineman Ryan Riggins was on the American roster, as was defensive back Dexter Moody of Albany State and linebacker Jeremy Grable of Valdosta State.
Former Florida receiver Solomon Patton was the American MVP with three catches for 50 yards, a 33-yard run and a 15-yard kickoff return.
A crowd of 5,135 watched the first game, set up for seniors hoping to draw more attention from NFL scouts.
