MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Playing without two injured starters, the Central-Phenix City girls basketball team lost 62-46 at Jeff Davis on Thursday in a Class 6A subregional.
Zakoria Hickson finished with 15 points to lead the Red Devils, who finish the season with a 17-8 record.
Central played without point guard Jimecheia Banks, who suffered a knee injury in late January. The Devils also were without forward LaShunte Faniel, who suffered a concussion in the 6A, Area 5 championship loss to Opelika on Saturday.
"It was still an amazing year for my team," Central coach Carolyn Wright said. "We had some injuries, but this team still battled on.
Never miss a local story.
"You have to play with the hand dealt you, and these girls played hard."
On Thursday, the Red Devils trailed just 47-44 after Keosha Glance's three-point play with 4:07 remaining, but the Vols scored eight straight points.
Ahyiona Vason had five of her 12 points in the decisive run.
Jasmine Walker scored 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting to lead JD (22-6), which clinched a 10th straight regional appearance. The Vols play Oak Mountain on Wednesday in the Central Regional semifinals.
