When the Spencer boys soccer team takes the field Thursday afternoon, it will make the fourth straight year that the Greenwave have advanced to the Class AA state tournament.
But the Greenwave are still searching for that elusive first postseason win.
"This speaks volumes about our program," coach Marvin Broadwater said. "This shows that we try to do the small things, the right way (and) with hard work, discipline and strong belief in God, anything is possible."
Spencer, which finished as the Region 5-AA runner-up, is hosting Coosa, the No. 3 seed from Region 7. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Woodruff Farm Road Soccer Complex.
This Spencer team (9-2) is not as experienced as the last three teams Broadwater took to the playoffs.
"What this teams lacks in experience, it makes up for it through being resilient, and showing determination and perseverance," Broadwater said.
Osvaldo Valencia led the Greenwave during the regular season with 36 of the team's 53 goals. Cristhian Amable was second with nine. Carlos Perez led the team with 13 assists.
Casten Rauch made 65 saves the keeper. The Greenwave allowed more than one goal only twice, both losses -- 4-2 to Lamar County and 3-2 to Bremen. In the nine wins, they outscored their opponents 49-7.
Broadwater said a win on Thursday will require a total team effort.
"I think the key to breaking through with a win is simply playing as a total team for a total 80 minutes," he said. "I believe if we do that, everything else will take care of itself."
Other games in the Class AA playoffs on Thursday include Jordan at Calhoun and Chattahoochee County at Murray County.
