FROM STAFF REPORTS
Former Russell County standout Cory Rasmus is headed back to the Major Leagues.
Rasmus is expected to join the Los Angeles Angels in time for Monday night's game against the New York Yankees.
The right-handed reliever was one of the last players the Angels cut during spring training.
He had pitched in 12 games for 16 1-3 innings in Triple-A Salt Lake City. He was 1-1 with a 2.76 ERA.
Rasmus made his major league debut with the Atlanta Braves last season. He was traded to the Angels during the season. With the two teams, he went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 19 games.
The Angels sent third baseman Luis Jimenez to the minors to make room for Rasmus.
Rasmus is the younger brother of Colby Rasmus, the starting center fielder for the Toronto Blue Jays.
