Former Northside track and field standout Ventavius Sears is returning to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin Wednesday at Eugene, Ore.
Sears, who as a freshman was part of two relay teams that advanced to the NCAA championships last season, qualified as an individual this year in the long jump.
He had a leap of 7.84 meters in the East preliminary championships in Jacksonville, Fla., last month.
Sears heads into Wednesday's competition seeded eighth.
Never miss a local story.
Sears will also be part of the Hilltoppers' 4x100-meter relay team that will compete this week in the NCAA championships. The semifinals will be Wednesday night with the final on Friday night.
Both of the relay teams (4x100 and 4x400) that Sears was a member of last season finished in the top five, earning Sears a pair of All-America honors.
