Houston outfielder Colby Rasmus (Russell County High) is not available to play in Wednesday night’s game, the fifth straight he has missed.
Rasmus has a skin infection on his left wrist caused by a bug bite.
Manager A.J. Hinch said Rasmus spent Monday night in the hospital receiving intravenous antibiotics to try to eliminate the infection and that he remained there on Tuesday. There was no report if he stayed Tuesday night.
Hinch said they hope Rasmus responds to treatment and can avoid going to the disabled list.
“It’s actually improved,” Hinch told the Houston Chronicle. “There’s still a little bit of achiness in there and still a little bit of discomfort. I think the smart thing for us is just to let the doctors continue to monitor him and get the infection out of there. We’ve probably all had some form of infection in our life. This one’s obviously hit him pretty hard.
“The continual treatment is the genesis behind wanting to keep him overnight. We have some of the best medical people around.”
