The Columbus High boys golf team breezed to the program’s 11th state golf championship Monday at Bartram Trail Golf Club.

The Blue Devils, who shot a 6-under-par 282, were led by Nolan Miller.

Miller won medalist honors with a 6-under-par 66, his best round of the year.

“I am very proud of the kids,” Columbus coach Chris Parker said. “This is the best season we have ever had.”

The Blue Devils easily beat Lakeside-Evans, who finished at 8-over 296.

“We came in and heard the score that Columbus shot and that’s just crazy good,” Lakeside coach Jody Hilley told the Augusta Chronicle. “At that point in time, you just have to tip your hat.”

Columbus had four players shoot 73 or better. Rudy Pearson added a 71. Ben Carr had a 72 and Daniel Davis shot a 73.

Even the two players whose scores didn’t count toward the team total were strong as Ben Womack shot a 74 and Jonathan Parker had a 78.

Miller’s round included an eagle 3 on the par-5 12th hole. He holed out a shot from 95 yards out.

“This is crazy,” Miller told the Augusta Chronicle. “I’m more happy we got the team win.

“I was driving the ball really good all day,” he said. “That gave me a little room for error.”

Miller won by three shots over Andrew Crockett of Starr’s Mill.

“His play was very strong,” Parker said. “It is a pretty difficult golf course.

“But we played well, played very mature.”

Harris County shot a 328 and finished in a tie for 14th.

The Tigers were led by Warren Gallatin and Kason Partridge, who both shot 78s.
