Dana Pitcher Productions, which brought the Best of the Best mixed martial arts events to Columbus, is bringing a 10-fight boxing event to the Civic Center on May 22.
I talked a little bit with the promoter, Dana Pitcher, and one of the fighters, Luis Yanez, on the phone today, and it sounds like there are some pretty good fighters on the card. I'll have a full story in Sunday's edition of the Ledger-Enquirer, but here are some quick points of interest.
These are the announced fights so far:
Heavyweight – Alferdo “Salsero” Escalera 18-2 (12KO’s)
Paul Jennette 11-2 (8KO’s)
Super Middleweight – Dyah Ali Davis 17-1 (8KO’s)
Geroge “The Rooster” Armenta 13-5 (11KO’s)
Flyweight – Luis “The Latin Legend” Yanez 4-0
Ernie “The Gladiator” Marquez 9-4
Escalera and Davis have well-known fighters as fathers (Alfredo Escalera Sr. and Howard Davis Jr.), and Yanez has a ridiculous amateur record of 307-12, competed for the U.S. at the Olympics, won a Pan American Games gold medal and has held national and world championship belts.
Here are some press photos the promoter sent me.
Tickets are on sale now at the Civic Center and range from $25 for reserved to $100 for ringside. They can be purchased at the Civic Center box office or through Ticketmaster.
