It was a big week for Chattahoochee Valley Community College baseball - right-handed pitcher Nick Sarianides signed with the Cleveland Indians and Keyong Kang, who played for CVCC in 2007, was selected for the MLB Futures Game during the all-star weekend.
Sarianedes was drafted in June and has spent the last month pitching for the Lima (Ohio) Locos, who are part of a wood-bat summer league. He was 5-for-5 as a closer. He had said he was leaning toward returning to school for a sophomore season if the money wasn't right (he was drafted in the 28th round), but apparently the Indians saw something in his mid-90s pitches worth the money it took to sway him.
Kang batted around .370 in his one season with CVCC, and is now part of the Tampa Bay Rays' organization, playing for the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Look for more info on both of these players over the next few days in the Ledger-Enquirer.
