As promised in the Q&A with Smiths Station's Lorenzo Betties in Tuesday's paper (found here), here's some video proof of the running back squatting 700 pounds. Smiths Station coach Mark Rose said it's the first time in 20-plus years of coaching that he's had a player squat 700 pounds.
Fast-forward to the 1:30 mark to see Betties, wearing a red shirt, do his squat.
To give you some idea of how big squatting 700 pounds is...
In 2003, Georgia's David Pollack squatted a team-best 700 pounds.
In 2004, Georgia's Gerald Anderson squatted a team-best 705 pounds.
Alabama's Mark Ingram, the most recent Heisman Trophy winner, squats 525 pounds.
Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was squatting about 630 during his senior year.
So Betties is pretty strong, huh?
