Columbus baseball coach Bobby Howard has confirmed he will retire from teaching after this year but will remain as head baseball coach.
Howard's name appeared on the list of retiring employees from a Muscogee County School District meeting earlier this week, but he said he enjoyed coaching too much to step away from that aspect of his job just yet.
“I just decided it was time to retire,” said Howard, who teaches physical education. “But I'm still enjoying what I'm doing here, so I'll keep doing that for a while.”
Howard is in his 26th season coaching the Blue Devils and has won nine state titles and finishing state runner-up six times. His current team is ranked No. 1 in GHSA Class AAA in the latest coaches poll.
