The Columbus Sports Council sent out an e-mail this afternoon with the details for a press conference later this month in which it presumably will release some details about the Southeastern Conference club ice hockey classic to be played at the Civic Center in November.
The event is being billed as the College Hockey Clash in Columbus.
According to my past discussions with sports council director Herbert Greene and the press release, it looks like club ice hockey teams from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Clemson will be playing.
Should be good stuff if you're a big hockey fan like I am, or even if you're new to the game but like an excuse to go cheer for your alma mater - or talk trash to your rivals.
And if you're wondering why Auburn isn't there, it's because their club team is in the early stages of getting its act together. I played in the adult ice hockey league at the Civic Center the last few years and a few of the guys who play are Auburn students, so I've heard a little about how that process is moving along. From what they have said, they should be ready for competition this fall.
