The Columbus Lions announced the re-signing of quarterback Chris McCoy and offensive lineman Willie Pritchett on Thursday.
McCoy, a former Navy QB, signed with the Lions in 2009 but sat out most of the year as a backup. But in 2010 he was promoted to the Lions starter after an early season injury to Todd Spitzer and held on to the job, leading the Lions to an Southern Indoor Football League title and SIFL Offensive Player of the Year and championship game MVP honors.
Pritchett joined the Lions late in the 2010 season as coach Jason Gibson tried to bolster the protection around McCoy.
These are the first signings I have seen announced, and last I heard there were still a handful of Lions veterans waiting to make a decision on whether they would return for another year. Among those are DB Damian Daniels, WRs Tirone Morris and Gerald Gales, LB Justen Rivers and DB/WR Anthony Merritt.
The Lions have a tryout scheduled for Oct. 9 at Lakewood Stadium, 70 Claire Drive SW, Atlanta. For more info on that and to register, go to columbuslions.net.
