Carver running back Isaiah Crowell, defensive linamen Gabe Wright and junior defensive back Deion Bonner visited Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday for the Alabama-Florida game, and on Wednesday each said they came away with a positive impression.
Crowell again confirmed he was down to Alabama and Georgia, but said he had no favorite between the two. This goes counter to a Tuesday evening blog posting at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which said Crowell's favorite was now Alabama. But hey, that was the kid's opinion on Wednesday, and I've seen people change them faster.
Crowell said he had no other visits planned just yet, but said he might still go to a Clemson game and has said this season he hopes to attend several more Georgia games.
Gabe Wright said he was impressed by Alabama and the attention coaches and players paid to him. Wright said he and the Tide fell off of each other's respective recruiting radars in the previous few months, but the new attention moved Bama to No.3 on his list behind No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Tennessee. Clemson is still in that mix, too, he said. Wright said he has plans to visit a game on Saturday. He said he is leaning toward going to see Georgia on Saturday as it hosts Tennessee, but his backup plan is to go to the Alabama-South Carolina game in Columbia, S.C.
And Bonner said he was impressed with the treatment from players, coaches and fans, but is taking the recruiting process slow. Bonner said he has tentative plans to visit Clemson for its Oct. 23 game against Georgia Tech in Clemson, S.C.
Here are some of the big points from my conversations with them:
Bonner on the Alabama-Florida visit: I liked the atmosphere. it was loud and there were a lot of fans.
Bonner on his timeframe for making a commitment: I'm going to take my time. isaiah and Gabe told me to take it slow, don't rush the recruiting process. They told me to just take my time.
Crowell on getting to mingle with coaches and players: We got a lot of chances to talk to the coaches. They made time for us and showed us a lot of love. During a game day, it can be hard to fit us into the schedule, but somehow they did.
Wright on his renewed interest in Alabama: I liked the fact that Alabama started re-recruiting me. They fell since I started making Auburn my leader.
Wright on the excitement of visiting during a big rivalry week: Overall it was good. It wasn't my first game, so i can't say it blew my mind. But playing Florida, you can't go wrong.
