The Hardaway boys soccer team was eliminated from the GHSA Class AAAA state playoffs with a 2-1 loss to Evans that went to a shootout (
), but Hawks forward Evan Scott has definitely left a mark that will stick around well after the playoffs finish up.
Scott was held scoreless against Evans, but finished with 63 goals this season and 193 in his career, according to Hardaway coach Rick Iden's records. That's good enough to land Scott at No. 5 in all-time career goals in the records compiled by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
I did a story about Scott early in the season, when his goal was to hit 200 goals (record is 213), and I checked the coach's numbers with those submitted over the years during the Ledger-Enquirer All-Bi-City nomination period, and they appear totally legit.
I know Scott has a few offers from colleges, but I'm surprised a D-I school hasn't scooped him up already like South Carolina did with Columbus' Stephen Anderson (whose team advanced last night).
