Jarvis Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he does not plan to petition the NCAA to play in 2010 and will instead redshirt.
The former Carver and Southern California linebacker said he wanted to "sit out the season and get my body right."
Jones has not returned phone messages left for him by the Ledger-Enquirer since USC granted him a release two weeks ago.
Jones suffered a neck sprain after playing eight games as a freshman, and USC doctors did not clear him to play for the final five games and all of spring practice. He will have three years of eligibility left after sitting out the 2010 season.
