I went out to a Brookstone football practice on Wednesday afternoon to talk to some players about their balanced offensive attack heading into a game at Hawkinsville, and I took a couple minutes to figure out the McCluskey family tree.
I've been asked about it a hundred times, so I figured I'd finally get to the bottom of how all these McCluskey players and coaches/team doctors are related. Here's what I put together for Friday's paper:
Brothers Lee, George and Brian McCluskey all played football at Hardaway, and now their sons have started a new family legacy at Brookstone.
In less than five seasons, six McCluskey players have played football for the Cougars, and each of their fathers is involved with the team.
Team doctor Lee McCluskey has two sons who have played at Brookstone: former quarterback Leland, who played through 2007, and senior offensive lineman Palmer.
George McCluskey, also a team doctor, is the father of junior running back and defensive back Drew McCluskey and former player Milton McCluskey, who graduated in the spring.
Brian McCluskey, the team's defensive backs and running backs coach, is the father of senior running back and linebacker Brewton and sophomore running back and defensive back Madison.
