A pair of Shaw softball players extended their careers together on Tuesday when they signed to play for Chattahoochee Valley Community College during a ceremony at Shaw.
Shaw pitcher Ashley Slouchick and first baseman Haley Yarbrough have played softball together since they were 9 years old, and both said they were eager to continue playing together with the Pirates.
“There are going to be some more ups and downs like we’ve always had, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to it because we’ve been friends for so long,” Yarbrough said. “I’ll already have someone there to put my head on it I need someone to talk to.”
Slouchick had a 1.90 ERA for Shaw last season and was an honorable mention Ledger-Enquirer All-Bi-City selection, and Yarbrough, a first-team All-Bi-City pick, batted .378 with 10 runs and 11 RBIs in 2010.
Shaw linebacker Oscar Horne also was part of the formal signing ceremony, although Horne officially signed his paperwork to play for Miles College on Thursday.
“It’s good to sign in front of all the people you know,” Horne said. “It’s been a very special moment in my life.”
