The Columbus Lions announced Monday morning the re-signing of defensive linemanFranklin Lloyd
and defensive backAnthony Merrit
Lloyd (6-0, 300, Troy) was an integral part of the Lions' 2010 Southern Indoor Football League championship run and was named an All-SIFL first-team selection with a league-leading 9.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for a loss.
Merritt (6-0, 215, North Alabama) played his first season as a defensive back in 2010, switching from wide receiver, and had six interceptions and two fumble recoveries, both for a touchdown. He also led the team with 230 kick return yards and occasionally played on offense, scoring five touchdowns.
The Lions also announced the entire 2010 coaching staff will return for the 2011 season under head coach Jason Gibson including co-defensive coordinators Brett Wink and Brandon Reed, offensive line coach Ed King, director of team services Fred Williams and quality control members Justin Jefferson and Charle McLochlin.
Players report for training camp on March 1, the Lions host the North Georgia Bulldogs at the Civic Center March 13 and begin the regular season on March 20 at the Alabama Hammers in Huntsville, Ala. The Lions return to Columbus the following week to host the Richmond Raiders on March 27.
