I managed to catch up with Harris County football coaches and defensive linemanJordan Jenkins
Never miss a local story.
while covering QB/ATH
' signing with Highland (Kan.) Community College on Tuesday, and it sounds like Jenkins has been pretty busy in the weight room.
The 6-3, 248-pound undecided junior defensive lineman, considered the state's top 2012 prospect by some recruiting experts, broke a school record Monday in the power clean with a 365-pound lift, five pounds more than the previous school record, according to coach Tommy Parks.
For some grasp of how much weight that is, a quick Google search shows most SEC and ACC football team power clean records are in the neighborhood of 370-380 pounds.
Parks said Jenkins has put on nearly 50 pounds this year through lifting and diet, and Jenkins' father, Ronald, told me his son is now benching about 275 pounds.
Also, for those of you who enjoy surprises, Jenkins is expected to hold off announcing his college decision until Feb. 1, 2012, national signing day. His current top six schools are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee.
