The World Basketball Association Exposure League had a few executives in Columbus on Tuesday for a press conference to promote their upcoming all-star weekend and a new WBA team coming to Columbus.
I'll have some more details in Wednesday's paper, but here's a quick rundown of what they hit on:
Never miss a local story.
- The WBA's eighth annual Historical Black College All-Star Classic, featuring some of the best men's hoops players from the CIAA, MEAC, SIAC and SWAC, will be hosted April 23 at the Civic Center. The night opens up with a boys high school all-star game at 5 p.m., a girls high school all-star game at 6:30 p.m. and then culminates with the men's college all-star game at 7:45 p.m.
- The night before the games, April 22, there will be a free "old school R&B" concert at Carver (actually, Baker Middle) featuring Cherrell and Alexander O'Neal followed by a college all-star slam dunk contest. Again, this is free and at Carver.
- Columbus has a yet-to-be-named WBA team that will begin play in the summer season (May-July). Here's a link to the league's website where you can get some info on other teams and the league itself.
