Some final thoughts
--Let’s start with my final pick, Saturday’s contest between Jordan and Temple. Jordan has lost 26 consecutive games dating back to the 2010 season. I think the Red Jackets end that slide on Saturday. It played a close game with Temple a year ago, and Temple is 0-2 this season with back-to-back 21-0 losses. This week really seems like the right recipe to get Jordan a victory.
--This week’s picks were particularly difficult, starting right with the one at the top. Hardaway and Shaw should make for a great game Thursday night. I went with the Hawks to end their losing streak against Shaw, but Shaw is every bit good enough to take the W as well. Very tough pick. A couple other game I think could surprise us a little bit: Manchester-Spencer, Carver-Colquitt County and Auburn-Smiths Station. I stand by each of my picks, but don’t underestimate the underdogs. Each of the three teams will compete, and if they make it a fourth-quarter game, anything can happen.
--Somehow, I’m relatively confident about the Central over Opelika. Despite the loss last week, the Red Devils looked strong on defense. Something tells me the urgency to avoid an 0-2 start in the region will be enough to get Central over the hump.
