The Burger King Southern 16 tennis championships concluded over the weekend at the Cooper Creek Tennis Center. There were 128 entries in the boys draw and 90 in the girls draw.
Winning the boys title was No. 1 seed Hunter Reese from Kennesaw, Ga. He made it two titles by teaming with Nathan Rakitt from Marietta to also win the boys doubles title. The best showing by a Columbus player was by Hunter Spicer, who won two matches before being eliminated from the tournament.
The girls champion was also the top seed, Shelby Talcott from Seacliff, N.Y. She also won the girls doubles title with partner Kathryn Hoch from Montclair, N.J. Columbus hopes were dashed when Georgia 16 champion Hennessey Ngo did not compete due to injury.
