The Snakes have three big games this weekend beginning tonight in Huntsville. The Havoc are the only team the Cottonmouths haven't beaten yet.
Huntsville won both meetings between the two teams, one in Huntsville and one in Columbus. The last contest was on Nov. 21st. It was the one in which the Havoc broke a 2-2 tie with three goals in a 1:21 span. That game was at the Snake Pit. I was stunned along with the 2213 in attendance. Chad was in net that night.
This weekend my bet is that Jerome will play Ian two games and Chad one. Historically, Jerome has two number-one goalies, but plays the one with the hot hand in situations like this.
Three games in three nights, there's no way one goalie plays all three. Chad is on a personal three-game losing streak and Ian on a four-game winning streak. I think we'll see Ian tonight, then Chad Friday and Ian Saturday. If Ian has a really great game tonight, we may see him in net Friday and then Chad Saturday.
The all-rookie line continues to shine as Levi, Jesse and Jeff still lead the team in points with 18, 16 and 16 respectively. But I've noticed a real spark in both Sam and Tim in the last few games. I'll be interested to see if Sam easily puts his involuntary two-period vacation behind him and picks up where he left off the previous weekend. My guess is that he will.
Hopefully that spark will also ignite number 84 and the Captain. Those two guys have other roles, of course, but more point production would help. The Cottonmouths are most successful when all three lines are producting. Right now the rookies are doing great and the Green line is coming around but the third line is struggling.
The Snakes haven't faced the Ice Bears since the second weekend of the season. On Oct. 30-31, the Cottonmouths took a pair of one-goal wins at home. Currently the Havoc are atop the league standings with 20 points. The Ice Bears have 18 and Snakes 16. This weekend's games could cause a major shakeup in the SPHL leader board.
One weekend off was fine, but now it's time for hockey!!
