While awaiting the start of 2010, I decided to check on Ian and see how he's doing in Florida. I heard from him earlier that he was disappointed at not playing and then from Jerome on the coach's show that there seemed to be, at best, a mixup in communications with the Florida coach.
When I saw that Mike Morrison was in net for Florida again tonight, I couldn't believe it. What in the world is Ian doing up there riding the bench instead of playing for the Snakes????
Don't get me wrong. Chad has done an awesome job in net since Ian left. He's the reason that the Snakes stayed in each of the past few games. But if anything happened to Chad, we have my pal Barney in net and Ian riding the pine in Florida.
I completely understood Ian's South Carolina shuttle last season though I wondered at times if he was wearing himself out. But he was gaining valuable experience at a higher level, and playing really well, which was great for him.
Upon further review...Ian was never going to play in Florida as he was signed as an EBUG. By rule, unless something's different in the ECHL, an emergency backup goalie can only appear if the team's starting goalie is injured. So it appears that, at best, somebody got their signals crossed. At worst, somebody misrepresented what Ian's role would be.
If I'm Ian, I'm on my way back to the Snake Pit...NOW.
What will the New Year bring? Will Ian be home? Will the Snakes score goals in bunches and break out of the funk they seem to be mired in?
See you tonight and we'll all find out!!
Happy New Year, everyone!
