This news just in, Snakes fans, from the SPHL Office:
February 15, 2011
CHARLOTTE, NC - The SPHL today announced that Augusta RiverHawks forward Aaron McGill has been suspended for his actions during SPHL Game #165, Augusta at Knoxville, played on Saturday, February 12.
At 18:18 of the third period, McGill sucker-punched a Knoxville player, causing serious injury.
After a full and thorough review, the SPHL has ruled that Mr. McGill will be suspended for the reminder of the 2010-2011 regular season and playoffs.
Kudos to commissioner Jim Combs for taking this decisive, appropriate action. I don't know Aaron McGill, never even met him, but would feel this way about anybody.
McGill's actions are dangerous and I don't want to see any of the league's players, especially the 18 I cover on a daily basis, injured more severely than several have already been.
Knoxville's Mark Van Vliet is recovering from surgery in which his jaw was wired, according to my colleague Dave Link of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Van Vliet's season is over. It's only fair that McGill's is as well.
