Big road trip for the Snakes starts tonight! The offense will celebrate a full roster for the first time in a month, while the D misses a key member.
Sitting at home, so sorry to say, is Dave. He was placed on 30-day IR. On the same day, Jeff was waived by Bloomington. No official announcement by the team yet, but Jeff should be in a Snakes uniform again soon. The Cottonmouths own his rights, so nobody else can get him.
Making their triumphant return tonight will be Sammy and Daryl. Thank goodness as I could not take one more night seeing them trudge into the lockerroom after the game wearing their suits and sad faces...ugh. :(
Sam was ready to WALK all the way to Louisiana. Was working on a story for Sunday and told him "two Ws, Sam". He looked at me, his eyes lighting up, and said "THREE". I was only talking about the road trip...haha. He is very excited about getting back on the ice...an understatement if I've ever made one.
Never miss a local story.
Daryl was never actually placed on IR, so he's held his roster spot for the last month. Counting all available bodies, there are now 20...which is over the limit by two.
Subtract Dave for the next 30 days...:( and you still have 19. Ian and Andrew; Bret, Jeff, Tom, Kyle, Will and Brody; Jesse, Sam, Brett, Daryl, Orrin, Levi, Jordan, Mitch, Matt, Pete and Joe.
Jeff isn't on board yet, so the Snakes will bring 18 players into the contest tonight. Don't think I've mentioned this yet, but at the recent league meetings, the GMs agreed to a variation in the rule they adopted last summer. The new rule said that a team can carry 18 players but only play 17.
Now if both coaches have 18 available players, they can agree to dress and play all 18. If Louisiana agrees tonight to play 18, Jerome won't have to sit somebody. Saturday night's opponent is another story.
Mississippi got bitten by the appeals process. When Zultek cross-checked McCreary twice...the second time in the back of the head when he was already kneeling on the ice, he was suspended for 7 games. The Surge appealed and it was INCREASED to 10 games. Ouch.
So, Zultek will miss two games against the Snakes, one tomorrow night and the March 11 game. He'll return for the March 12 contest at the Snake Pit.
The Snakes are 5-0 against Louisiana this season, but the IceGators team they face tonight is not the same one they squared off against when the Cottonmouths swept a weekend series on Jan. 14-15. Louisiana is riding a three-game winning streak.
It's a great time to get Daryl back as he has 9 points in 5 games played against his former team.
With two goalies on board, not sure how Jerome will divide the playing time. My guess is that Ian will get two and Andrew one, but that's only a guess.
Looking forward to yet another big road test for the Snakes. This season is winding down and playoffs are looming. Can't believe it's gone by so fast!!
