Great end to the weekend for the Snakes!! Four of six points and two exciting wins.
Even better news is that Orrin is fine. To be honest, I didn't see the hit that put Orrin out of the game. Not to say that I don't blink occasionally during 60 minutes of play, but if a hit is significant enough, it makes me cringe. I notice the player, the hit and its location. You see, I have a mental catalogue of Snakes injuries. It's a talent not everyone has...haha. I'm always concerned that they'll re-injure themselves.
Anyway, back to Orrin. The first time I noticed something wrong was when the repairs were being done to the glass. Orrin was talking to Hannah and she escorted him off the ice. Hannah returned right away, which usually means she turned him over to Dr. Flandry or whoever's on duty. I figured Orrin would be back to start the second. But he never returned.
I later heard that x-rays were negative and he's just bruised. Great news.
Also, an injury update on Dave. He's scheduled to have the foot x-rayed on Tuesday and come off IR on the 16th, I believe. The conversation between us was comical...at least to Dave, I'm sure.
When a game is over and I have to write quickly, I'm worn out when I'm finished. I wanted to see Brody the auctioneer in action, though, so I went up to the suites and caught up with Dave.
He's still wearing a big, bulky boot. So I asked him if he's going to be ready to come back next weekend. (note: next weekend is the 11th and 12th...which I knew...sort of). He said no, he can't come back 'til the 18th. I asked if only skating a couple days would have him back by Friday. He said no, not this Friday, the next Friday. I'm sure he thinks I'm senile...haha.
I'm convinced I could be a case study for the effects of adrenaline. I get so involved in the game, interviews, writing on deadline, that when it's over and I come down from this adrenaline rush, I'm wiped out. Just ask poor Dave...haha.
I, for one, will be glad when he comes back because I really like him paired with Tom. They are well-matched in style and experience. A very effective defensive pair.
Andrew was named Warrior of the Game for his performance, which I thought was rock solid. I can usually tell how a game's going to go by how a goalie handles his rebounds. Andrew did an awesome job tonight and Ian did last night as well.
Great job by Bret in the "fire the puck and maybe something good will happen" category. That puck had eyes and gave the Snakes the edge of scoring first.
Don't know if you listened closely to the "Trash Talk" segment. Sometimes I do and others I don't. Since it comes in the third period, I'm usually focused on my story by then. Josh Koscheck called out the Havoc's Ryan Hand for refusing to fight...pretty funny. Thought Koscheck and Alex Karalexis were very engaging with the crowd. A little concerned when Koscheck participated in ALL of pregame warm-ups. Thought he'd make a token appearance and leave. He was enjoying himself immensely, though. A couple of times he almost got in the way of the Snakes during their drills. Uh, oh...this may give new meaning to "fight night" if he messes with their pre-game rituals...haha.
With two points, Jesse grabbed the scoring lead from Sammy. Those two have gone back and forth and will probably continue to do so since Jesse's lead is only one point. Sam is the only one who's hit the magic point-a-game plateau. He has 40 points in 39 games. Jesse is close with 41 points in 43 games.
This is such an exciting time of year!! Third place is in sight now. Actually, so is second. In order to climb to the top tier, though, the Snakes have to find a way to beat Mississippi. So far this season, they're only 1-4 against the Surge. Andrew got the win and it came at the Snake Pit. Andrew is 1-1 against MS and Ian is 0-3. Yikes. The Surge come to town for a doubleheader Friday and Saturday nights. A big test for the guys!!
