Big news out of Huntsville today is the resignation of former Snake and three-year Havoc coach Randy Murphy. This is a team in disarray, certainly, but a coaching change with six games left in season is pretty unusual. But the Havoc are fighting for their playoff lives and in a tailspin, going 1-8-1 in their last 10. Right now, they've claimed the eighth and final slot, but certainly have absolutely no momentum entering the stretch run and playoffs. Maybe this move will provide that.
Murphy's resignation, whether it was offered or requested we'll never know, prompted the equally sudden retirement of Glen Detulleo, who will move behind the bench.
Wonder why Detulleo doesn't coach tonight? Are they planning a big farewell for his retirement? No idea. Also, he's Huntsville's leading scorer. Aren't they doing a pretty big trade-off...points for coaching?
This news isn't as shocking after what happened to the Havoc in their last game. They blew a 4-1 lead to the RiverKings and lost 6-4, giving up three goals in less than a minute. Mark Sibbald's return to net has not gone well. I believe he's now 0-6 since coming back. The fact that he came back at all was a little weird. Randy himself said that the other players voted Sibbald off the island. Then these same players are supposed to welcome him with open arms?
If a team doesn't have confidence in its goalie...and vice versa...it's a disaster.
We'll keep an eye on this situation and see how these moves work out for the Havoc.
