In a vote of SPHL coaches and selected media members, it is now official:
Columbus Cottonmouths goaltender Ian Vigier is the best in the league. Ian was named today the SPHL Goaltender of the Year.
Those of us who have been privileged to watch Ian for 5 seasons are not at all surprised. He has played brilliantly this year and is one of the reasons the Snakes are making a serious run at the President's Cup.
As faithful readers of the Ledger-Enquirer stories and this blog, you know that this has been the best year ever for Ian. He and his wife Maggie are parents to a precious little man named Paxton. Ian will quickly tell you that being Dad of the Year is his number one goal...but I bet he was happy to be honored by the writers and coaches. :)
As you know, I was not permitted to vote for Ian, but not for lack of trying. I emailed Doug Price, league VP, to ask if only coaches were prohibited from voting for their own players. Surely that didn't include media members, too? Doug replied: sorry, but it does. What he meant was: nice try. haha
Everyone associated with the Cottonmouths is very proud of Ian. He is so well respected throughout the league. This honor just affirms what everyone knows.
Ian Vigier is the best.
