TOCCOA, Ga. — Jacob Pate hit a three-run homer and a run-scoring double to lead the Columbus Northern 11-12 All-Star team to a 12-2 rout of East Marietta in the state tournament on Sunday night.
Will Kilgore and Zach Cravens knocked in two runs apiece. Cravens hit a grand slam in Saturday‘s win.
After Northern fell behind 1-0, Pate hit his homer in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead.
Northern added four runs in the second for a 7-1 lead. Matt Jones and Pate hit RBI doubles. Kilgore scored on a passed ball and Andrew Hamric drove in a run on a ground ball.
East Marietta scored a run in the top of the third.
Northern scored five in the third. Kilgore doubled in two runs. Cravens had a pinch-hit two-run single. Blake Hicks doubled in the final run.
Hamric earned the win for Northern.
Northern, which is now 2-0 in pool play, will play Martinez-Evans at 5 p.m. Monday.
