Kiker pitches four innings of Team USA’s IBAF win

VERONA, Italy — Former Russell County High standout Kasey Kiker started and pitched four innings in Team USA’s 11-1 rout of the Netherland Antilles on Monday.

The U.S. is 2-0 in Round 2 of the 2009 IBAF World Cup.

Kiker allowed one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and five walks. Lucas Harrell came on and pitched the final three innings of the game, which was shortned by the mercy rule.

Justin Smoak hit two of the four Team USA home runs.

Smoak finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and Jon Weber and Lucas May both went 3-for-4.

The U.S. will face Japan today at 2 p.m. at Stadio Comunale in Macerata, Italy. Brad Lincoln is expected to take the mound for Team USA.
